Cost Calculator for Mechanical Soil Maintenance (ploughing or mowing) in Vineyards

Cost Calculator for Mechanical Soil Maintenance (ploughing or mowing) in Vineyards

This calculator will help you estimate the true cost of maintaining your soil, based on the size of your plot, the number of vines per hectare, the unit price per bottle and the percentage of vines broken per year.

Maintenance costs are estimated at between €1,000 and €3,000 per hectare per year, including labour, maintenance and machine depreciation.

Results

The results show the estimated costs for soil maintenance over periods of 1, 5 and 10 years:

1 year: N/A

5 years: N/A

10 years: N/A

Detailed calculation

The calculation of soil maintenance costs is based on the following assumptions:

  • Maintenance cost per hectare: This cost is estimated at between €1,000 and €3,000 per hectare per year, including labour, maintenance and machine depreciation. By default, we use a modifiable value of €2,000 per hectare.
  • Cost of broken vines: Every year, a percentage of vines are broken, requiring replanting and a loss of production. For each broken vine :
    • The loss of production is evaluated at one bottle per broken foot. The price of each bottle is specified by the user (for example, €10).
    • The cost of scraping (replacing broken legs) is estimated at €18 per broken leg.
  • Duration of non-production: Broken plants take 4 years to start producing again, which means that there is an impact on production for the following 4 years.

For each period (1 year, 5 years, 10 years), the costs are calculated as follows:

  1. Cost for the first year:
    • The basic maintenance cost for the size of the plot is calculated by:
Taille de la parcelle (ha) x Coût d'entretien payé par hectare (€)
    • The cost of lost production due to broken feet is calculated by:
Taille de la parcelle (ha) x Nombre de pieds par hectare x Pourcentage de pieds cassés par an x Prix de la bouteille (€)
    • The scraping cost is calculated by:
Taille de la parcelle (ha) x Nombre de pieds par hectare x Pourcentage de pieds cassés par an x 18 €
  2. Cost over several years: For 5 and 10 years, we take into account the loss of production for 4 years following the breakage, which means that the loss is cumulative. The cost is therefore calculated on the basis of the maintenance cost multiplied by the number of years, as well as the cumulative loss of production over this period.
